Prism's Space Agreements

Welcome to Prism Community Collective! Prism Community Collective is a community and resource center for those impacted by the Club Q tragedy, including the greater LGBTQ+ community. We are here to offer an accountable and welcoming environment to build connections, help walk alongside folks in need of support, and celebrate our community. To meet these goals, we have developed a list of space agreements that we are asking every participant to agree to and acknowledge when using space.

The agreements are as follows:

1. Be mindful of how you conduct yourself in the environment

  • Our space is a communal space so please be mindful of the volume of your conversations. Additionally, everyone has different thresholds for appropriate language, topics, and volume so be mindful of what you say and how you say it.

2. Be mindful of others in space

  • We are a community resource center open to all, so please be aware of others in the environment.

3. Use “I” statements

  • Keep statements to what you are experiencing and avoid commenting on what others are experiencing.

4. Treat everybody with dignity and respect, therefore there is no tolerance for violence, harassment, or discrimination of any kind in the facility

  • Being discriminatory or prejudiced in any way is not tolerated in our facility as we are working to foster community. If there are any incidents, you will be asked to leave the facility immediately and could be subject to a 30-day ban.

5. Respect others and their identities and approach with curiosity

  • One size doesn’t fit all, respect others the way they show/tell you how.

6. It is okay to correct, just do so with grace and courtesy

  • People make mistakes, it happens. Correction is an invitation. Please do so with grace and courtesy and know everyone is trying their best.

7. Be open to redirection

  • Some interactions are tough, and the hope is that we can move through them together.

8. Respect and restore the environment

  • We have a lovely space that we wish to keep tidy and in good condition, so we ask that you treat the environment and equipment with respect. Additionally, we ask that after you are done using a space that you will clean up after yourself.

9. Help yourself to what you need but take into consideration what other’s needs are

  • Feel free to help yourself to snacks and drinks in the space but also take into consideration others that may also be utilizing the space. Take only what you need to help ensure others can get what they need. We will always do our best to have refreshments available, but it is not something we can guarantee.  What is set out is all that we have for the week.

10. Weapons are not allowed into the space

  • We want to do all that we can to keep our center a safe space. For that reason, we ask that weapons do not come into the space. If you do not disclose that you have a weapon in the space and it is discovered that you have one, you will be asked to immediately leave the space and there will be a 30-day ban. We take the safety of our patrons and staff very seriously and not disclosing the presence of a weapon is a major violation of our space agreements.

11. Use the space with intention

  • We have set up the space to help you on your journey, however that may look. We ask that you use the space with intention and make sure that you are growing and learning in a way that applies to you.

12. It is okay to ask for help

  • Sometimes we all need a little help! Do not hesitate to ask a staff member for help during your visit. We will do our best to accommodate within the scope of our ability.

13. Recognize that all needs are different

  • What you need to be in space is not the same as others, be mindful and attempt to meet everyone where they are.

14. Any large bag or suitcase will need to be stored in a staff office

  • This allows us to ensure that spaces are not cluttered and welcoming to all folks.
  • If you leave the facility, you will need to take your belongings with you. They cannot be stored while you are gone.

15. The environment is set up intentionally per space, please keep furniture in their respective place

  • We have set up the spaces with intention and ask visitors to leave things in place during your visit. If you have any questions, feel free to contact a staff member.
