What is the Prism Provider Directory?

For LGBTQ+ individuals and their loved ones, finding healthcare providers who offer sensitive, supportive, quality care has been a discouraging process for far too long. The Prism Provider Directory is dedicated to filling this crucial gap of care for our community.

Our free, searchable database is designed to connect you with inclusive professionals who prioritize LGBTQ+ individuals and their unique needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

This queer-led initiative is housed at Community Health Partnership (CHP), a Colorado Springs-based non-profit whose mission is to transform the way people work together to solve complex community health issues. As part of this mission, CHP is working with others in the area to increase access to quality, affirming mental and physical health care for LGBTQ+ individuals in El Paso County. The LGBTQ+ Affirming Providers Directory is one of the projects CHP and our LGBTQ+ Health Equity team are launching to meet this critical need.

Additionally, the Prism Provider Directory is one of the many resources being offered through the Prism Community Collective. Opening this winter, PCC will be a physical space where Club Q survivors, the Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ community, and their loved ones can connect to each other and to resources designed specifically for them.

Funding for this project comes from a grant CHP received from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE), specifically the Health Disparities and Community Grant Program.

At this time, the directory contains mental health care providers, which includes licensed and pre-licensed professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychologists. We are working to add medical providers with a focus on primary care physicians who are provide gender-affirming care.

Providers who are interested in joining the directory are instructed to fill out an online form with the relevant information needed to create a profile. Each provider also signs a statement where they must affirm their commitment to equality for LGBTQ+ clients and patients.

From there, we personally review every provider submission for their readiness to be included in the directory. This may include conducting follow-up interviews with interested practitioners, offering training opportunities, and encouraging them to further their cultural awareness and competency.

Although we do our best to ensure that a practitioner is a trustworthy addition to the directory, it is up to each individual to assess their own comfort, safety, and security with a practitioner. We encourage you to reach out to the provider(s) you are interested in to gain a full understanding of the services they offer.

We are continually conducting outreach to mental and medical health professionals in the area to increase the size of the directory. Providers are encouraged to keep their information as updated as possible, and they are prompted to update their information on a quarterly basis.

Your feedback is essential to ensuring this directory remains a safe and affirming resource. If you’d like to share an experience you’ve had with a provider, be it positive or negative, please fill out this form. If you’d rather communicate another way you can reach out to us at dara.hoffmanfox@ppchp.org and we can set up a phone call or find another way to connect that would feel most comfortable to you.

At this time we do not have additional funding available to provide financial assistance. If you have health insurance, we encourage you to utilize the search function in the directory to locate providers who take yours. Additionally, you can ask if the provider offers a sliding scale fee, offers lower cost services through interns, or if they offer any pro bono (free) services.
