Deborah Tuffield, DNP, APRN, FNP-C began her nursing career with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Missouri Columbia, gaining unparalleled experience in critical care and vascular access, while also establishing herself as a respected nurse.
Currently working as Nursing Faculty and as a Family Nurse Practitioner for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), Dr. Tuffield is widely known for her interest in working with the LGBTQ community, and her expertise in the care of transgender people. In fact, UCCS is where Dr. Tuffield conducted her doctoral quality improvement project titled “Improving the Secondary Prevention of the LGBTQ Population,” which focused on improving care of LGBTQ patients with depression, tobacco use, and alcohol misuse. Dr. Tuffield completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Colorado Anschutz.
Dr. Tuffield’s future career goal is to share her transgender people work with all students and nurse practitioners possible since she has already developed a practice known throughout Colorado for its safe and compassionate care.
Dr. Tuffield lived in Colorado Springs for 18 years, and now lives in Penrose with her husband. She enjoys hangin’ with her chickens, gardening, weaving, tatting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, making stained glass, walking for exercise, and playing children’s video games.
Clinic staff also able to manage pre-authorizations, where to send referrals, and are LGBTQ+ friendly.
As we are hoping we can pass on to the next generation of providers the way to kindly manage care for the LGBTQ+ community, patients more than likely will also be working with UCCS nurse practitioner students.
