Frequently Asked Questions
Who created the provider directory?
The directory was developed by ChangeLine, a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit, through its LGBTQ+ Health Equity Initiative, which works to strengthen access to affirming care across the Pikes Peak region. It’s housed on the website of Prism Community Collective, a survivor- and LGBTQ+-led resource center serving the Colorado Springs community.
What kinds of providers can I find in the directory?
The directory includes mental health providers, physical health providers, and health and wellness practitioners who are committed to serving LGBTQ+ patients and clients, including those with a focused interest in trans and queer health. You can search the full directory or browse by category to find the right fit for your needs.
Are providers screened before being added to the directory?
Yes — every provider goes through a review with our LGBTQ+ Health Equity team before being listed. We ask applicants to share:
- Their experience working with LGBTQ+ patients and clients, including trans and gender expansive individuals
- Their qualifications, including training, consultation, formal education, and lived experience
We do our best to ensure that each practitioner is a trustworthy addition to the directory, and we also believe that you know yourself best. We encourage you to reach out to any provider you’re considering to get a full picture of the services they offer and make sure they feel like the right fit for you.
Can I schedule an appointment through Prism?
As a community resource center focused on connection, support, and resources, Prism is unable to schedule appointments. However, the directory is here to help you find the right provider at your own pace. Once you’ve found someone who seems like a good fit, we encourage you to reach out to them directly to check availability and schedule your first appointment.
Do you provide financial assistance for mental health care services?
At this time, financial assistance isn’t available. If you have health insurance, the search function in the directory can help you find providers who accept yours. It’s also worth asking any provider you’re interested in whether they offer a sliding scale fee, lower cost services through interns, or pro bono services — many do.
Can I give feedback about the directory or a provider?
Yes, and we’d love to hear from you! Your feedback helps us improve our services and make the directory better! Please send us an email at directory@prismcos.org.
